7. Grammarly Functions With English-Language Variations.

While it may sound odd, the reality is that English does differ a bit based on where it’s spoken. The most glaring example of this is British and American English, which has various styles and even spelling. One example of this is “Color” (US) versus “Colour” (UK).

While Grammarly might only work with the English language, it supports variations– American English, British English, Canadian English, and even Australian English. I’ll be frank here– I am somewhat knowledgeable about the first two but have no idea what Canadian and Australian English involves.

Perspective is the writer’s way of deciding who is informing the story to whom. Since it dictates how your reader interprets characters, events, and other important details, developing a clear point of view is important. There are three kinds of viewpoint: first person, second person, and 3rd person.

First-person viewpoint. Grammarly Premium Jerry Falwell Library.
In first-person viewpoint, the reader accesses the story through a single person. It resembles reading the main character’s journal. You will notice pronouns like I, me/my, we, us, or our in first-person writing. This limits the scope of what a reader can understand about other characters, but it is truest to how we live our lives.

There are 2 methods to write in first person:.

First-person central: The storyteller is also the lead character of the story. For instance, in To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout is both the primary character and the narrator, suggesting this book is written in first-person central.

First-person peripheral: The narrator is telling the story of the lead character from nearby. One famous example is F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Excellent Gatsby. The story of Gatsby is informed not by Gatsby himself but by a storyteller named Nick, a good friend and next-door neighbor of Gatsby’s.
Why write in first individual?

Recognition: The reader is discovering information right along with the storyteller, so they recognize more carefully with them. First-person writing produces a sensation of “we remain in this together.”.
Opinion: If your piece is greatly dependent on opinions, then it’s an excellent idea to develop whose viewpoint it is. This can be the imaginary viewpoint of a character or the opinion of the writer. In either case, using the pronoun I guarantees the opinion will not read as fact.

Intrigue: The limits of a character’s knowledge can play to the benefit of the author if you want to create mystery around other characters. For instance, the narrator’s range from the topic in The Excellent Gatsby creates a sense of intrigue about Gatsby.

Second-person point of view.
Second-person point of view uses the pronoun you. There are some examples of second-person point of view in books, which we’ll explore later on in this article. Simply understand that it’s the most tough and least-often-used point of view in fiction.

Why write in second person?

Originality: It’s uncommon to find the second-person perspective in creative writing. Write in 2nd person for an imaginative obstacle or to create a novel experience for your reader.
Area for reflection: By placing the pronoun you into composing, you’re dealing with the reader straight. This is a helpful way to generate space for their individual reflection.

The fact that Grammarly can differentiate between them is excellent.

The totally free version of Grammarly provides a good idea of how usage of it will feel. That user experience is the important part– use it and see how the workflow feels to you.
